Terms of Service

The Service lets Customer operate a hosted documentation workspace on one or more branded hosts under hosted.devdocs.ai. Customer may publish live documentation packages (including from Customer's continuous integration pipeline using publishing credentials, or by promoting a package from the dashboard), connect authorized content sources so the Service can index knowledge for search and chat, manage team access, branding, sites, analytics, and usage, and offer readers an AI assistant grounded in Customer's own content.

Package publish and live site cutover are separate from knowledge indexing. Connecting or syncing a source updates the knowledge index used for grounded answers; it does not, by itself, change which package is live for visitors. DevDocs does not run Customer's documentation build pipeline on DevDocs infrastructure: packages arrive as validated artifacts. Source connectors pull or receive only content Customer authorizes for indexing.

The AI assistant answers using retrieval grounded in Customer's own content for that workspace, with citations back to source material where available. Answers with no verified citation are suppressed rather than shown. The assistant does not always have an answer, and we do not claim it never makes mistakes. Public reader chat retrieves only content marked public for that workspace; private or ACL-restricted material is reserved for authorized signed-in member flows where the product supports them.

Customer designates one or more account owners and administrators, who may invite additional users and assign roles (owner, admin, editor, viewer). Customer is responsible for the actions of users it invites and for keeping role assignments current, including removing access when a user leaves. Sign-in uses magic-link email on the apex host hosted.devdocs.ai; workspace documentation hosts do not host the account dashboard.

A workspace subdomain (the "slug") is permanent and public once approved. Choose it carefully; renaming a live slug is not supported during the design partner period. Certain names are reserved and may be held for review or blocked as described in the Acceptable Use Policy.

Customer retains all right, title, and interest in the documentation and source material it publishes or connects, and in the questions its visitors ask ("Customer Content"). Customer grants DevDocs only the limited, non-exclusive license needed to store, cache, index, embed for retrieval, and serve Customer Content in order to operate the Service, and to generate retrieval embeddings solely to answer questions against that Customer's own content for that workspace.

DevDocs does not train, fine-tune, or otherwise improve any machine learning model on Customer Content, and does not permit its subprocessors to do so. This commitment is stated plainly and without qualifiers, and it is one of the things our security page and our privacy policy say the same way.

Customer is responsible for having the rights needed to publish, connect, and process Customer Content through the Service, including content pulled from third-party systems Customer connects (for example GitHub, Confluence, or similar sources).

4.1 The Service is a paid product. During the design partner period the Service is provided at no charge, at our discretion, for a limited time. No free tier exists as a right or an entitlement, and none will be offered at general availability.

4.2 Access provided at no charge is revocable at any time, for any reason, without notice and without refund, and confers no license and no continuing right of access. It creates no expectation of continued or future free access.

4.3 Nothing in these Terms, and nothing in the parties' course of dealing, grants any perpetual, irrevocable, paid up, or fully paid right. No course of dealing, non-enforcement, delayed invoicing, or provision at no charge creates a free tier, waives any future fee, or grants any right. When billing begins, continued access requires a paid Order.

4.4 Fees, when charged, are those stated in your Order. Workspaces may already show credit balances, ledgers, and usage for metered features (including AI and source index work). Self-serve payment checkout may not be available until we enable it; design partner access remains free at our discretion until then.

DevDocs records usage of metered features (including AI assistant questions and related index work) on a per-workspace basis from the start of your access to the Service, whether or not fees are currently charged. This history exists so that billing, when it begins, can be enforced accurately rather than estimated retroactively. Metering records are described in our privacy policy.

DevDocs retains all right, title, and interest in the Service, including its software, infrastructure, and documentation reader shell. Customer receives a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to access and use the Service during an active term (including a design partner period), for Customer's own internal and customer-facing documentation purposes.

• No copying, modification, or creation of derivative works of the Service itself.
• No reverse engineering, decompiling, or disassembling any part of the Service, except to the extent applicable law prohibits this restriction.
• No sublicensing, resale, or provision of the Service to third parties as a hosting platform.
• No use of the AI assistant as a general purpose model endpoint outside the scope of answering questions about Customer's content for that workspace.

Use of the Service is subject to our Acceptable Use Policy, incorporated into these Terms by reference. Violations may result in throttling, suspension, or termination as described there.

We may suspend or terminate access for breach of these Terms, non-payment once billing applies, or as described in the Acceptable Use Policy. On termination, Customer's content is removed from active serving and, subject to our data retention practices, deleted from primary storage within a commercially reasonable period. Workspace hosts that are retired may serve a 410 Gone response rather than being reassigned. Termination does not entitle Customer to a refund of any fees already paid, except where required by law.

During the design partner period, the Service is provided without a service level agreement and without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement, to the maximum extent permitted by law. We work to keep the Service available and will tell you plainly if that changes.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, DevDocs will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits or lost data, arising from or related to these Terms or the Service, even if advised of the possibility of such damages. DevDocs' aggregate liability arising out of or related to these Terms will not exceed the amount Customer paid DevDocs for the Service in the twelve months preceding the claim, or one hundred dollars if no fees were paid.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to its conflict of laws principles. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Travis County, Texas, and each party consents to personal jurisdiction there.

We may update these Terms from time to time. If a change is material, we will provide reasonable notice before it takes effect. Continued use of the Service after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance.
